Let the River Run
Rehearsal Tracks
CONCERT INTRODUCTION (Barbara Garlock, 2019):

Let the River Run was written by Carly Simon for the 1989 movie Working Girl, that tells the story of a Wall Street secretary in the 80s with big hair, big shoulder pads and big dreams.
Simon said she wrote it to reflect “young striving girl energy - a hymn with a jungle backbeat". The song is a hymn to New York City - the drama of the movie takes place in the Twin Towers. After 9/11, the song, which won an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy in 1989, was recorded by Simon at the World Trade Center site.
The song has since become a global anthem for a new generation - especially for women. Because it encapsulates the spirit of working hard to bring about your dreams of a better world, it was intentionally chosen by the organizers of the Women’s March in 2017 as its theme song.
We hope our rendition inspires you to believe you too can fight the good fight.
