Quaker Hymn (c. 1800)
Arranged by Gwyneth Walker
How Can I Keep From Singing is based on a Quaker hymn from the 1800s in the United States. References to the persecution of the Friends may be heard in the lyrics. This arrangement of it is by Gwyneth Walker, an American composer renowned for the energy and beauty in her compositions. Especially now, in the era in which we are living, we hope that the hymn’s affirmation of faith and courage – even in the face of difficulties and strife -- is a message and a song we all can appreciate.
