I Know You Rider

CONCERT INTRODUCTION

Dale Feuer, 2018

Many of you may have recognized the song we just sang, I Know You Rider, as a Grateful Dead tune. But it originated as a traditional blues song in the late 1920s. Over the years, it has been adapted, both musically and lyrically, by a diverse group of musicians, including the Kingston Trio, James Taylor, the Byrds, and Janis Joplin. Most have interpreted it largely as a lament of a lost “rider” or lover.
