Stormy Weather
CONCERT INTRODUCTION

Mary Rubino 2018

Many of the songs on today’s program celebrate the magic of love, new and old. Our next song expresses the woe, the heartache, the despair, that can overcome lovers who are parted.
Stormy Weather, music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by Ted Koehler, was composed in 1933 for New York City’s Cotton Club Revue and was made famous by Lena Horne in a film of the same name. Stormy Weather, with its wailing trombone-like vocals, captures a sentiment many lovers can relate to as we try to stay afloat through life’s many tempests.
